Vlora Imeri, Kosovo: The veil of fear The idea of this work came to me after reading the book of Samia Sheriff. ''Le voile de la peur''(The veil of fear).
I did a reflection about the wearing of the veil, its meaning for women, and I concluded that this is a way to make them lose their identity, until they become nothing and that they disappear.
This seemed very important to start my work with a girl who is still young who still not get the puberty already at this stage of year women are stigmatized.
At the age of 10 years old, she has a light veil covering her hair. This is the beginning of the denial of their femininity.
At the age of 15 years old, there is not a hair out. She begins to represent a temptation to man and it should be hidden in everything that this body could be attractive.
At the age of 20 years old, only the eyes are visible.
At the age of 25 years, we cannot see her face anymore. She lost all signs of identity, femininity and simply as human beings.
For me these five images represented the violence that we can exercised on a weakened person by the society in which she lives by custom and by prohibiting religious which she has no control.
For me, 20 years old, religion Muslin woman, I am feeling concerned. This images that I proposed corresponds perfectly with my own vision. My intention is not to debate but simply to allow other person by means of visual, to develop also them a reflection on this subject. |
