ZHUANG Wubin (Singapore) Nje projekt qe kerkon te thellohet ne historine e nje komuniteti, qe mbijeton midis miteve, historive, tradites, besimit dhe fakteve qe i rrethojne dhe duke u perballur me trysnine e mases. Imazhi sjell nje lloj rezistence te heshtur besimi, qe mposht zhurmen e divergjencat e nje shoqerie te madhe. As a third-generation Chinese born in Singapore, I have very little in common with my peers in China. However, my education has also made me very different from the Chinese born in Southeast Asia. As such, my long-term interest as a photographer in the Chinese communities in Southeast Asia can be seen as an attempt to understand my roots and my position as a constituent of the region, home to more than 80 percent of all the overseas Chinese in the world. The Chinese Muslims in Indonesia are truly a minority amongst a minority in the country. And yet, by tracing their histories over the last 600 years, it is not difficult to understand the discrimination that many Indonesian Chinese – Muslims or non-Muslims – continue to face in the country. While the Chinese Muslims are credited by many scholars around the world in helping to bring Islam to Java, the successive governments of colonial Holland and of Suharto have consistently suppressed the facts. While this project is not a deliberate attempt to address the issue of discrimination, I hope to investigate the myths and facts surrounding the story of Chinese Muslims in Indonesia with this project (Zhuang Wubin). |
